Homework AYF 5 February

Do the following exercises on comparatives and superlatives.


*In group 1 (monosyllables), we don't double the final letter when the adjective ends in
vowel + vowel + consonant; or
vowel + consonant + consonant:



cheap - cheaper - cheapest,
old - older - oldest

*So remember only to double the final letter of monosyllabic adjectives ending in C+V+C. You will end up doing this automatically.

1. Put the adjectives in the correct form:

a. My brother has a (tidy) ___ room than me.
b. Australia is (big) ___ than England.
c. I'm (good) ___ now than yesterday.
d. She's got (little) ___ money than you, but she doesn't care.
e. He thinks Chinese is (difficult) ___ language in the world.
f. Barça played (bad) ___ than Atleti last week.
g. Dogs are not (intelligent) ___ as cats.
h. Show me (good) ___ restaurant downtown. 
i. (hot) ___ desert of all is the Sahara and it's in Africa.
j. Who is (talkative) ___ person in your family?

2. Write the appropriate words to fill the gaps. Use comparatives and superlatives.

a. That's my ___ (bad) mark ever!
b. It's ___ (far) than I thought - I think we're lost.
c. That dish of Brussels sprouts was the ___ (disgusting) meal I've ever had!
d. I hope your team's ___ (lucky) today than last week.
e. They're ___ (happy) in their new school than in their old one. 
f. Your spaghetti sauce is ___ (tasty) than my mum's. 

3. Correct the mistakes in these sentences.

a. The more amazing thing just happened to me!
b. He's a lot taller you.
c. She's worst than me at maths.
d. He's best in the team at goal scoring. 
e. The pizza here isn't as good the one in Papa John's.
f. When crossing a high bridge, it is frighteninger if you look down.
g. Where's the most cheap place to eat?
h. My cat has been eating a lot...I think he is fater.
